The World Bank’s annual review of the global carbon market describes a carbon market that grew in total value by 11% in 2011, to $176 billion, and where transaction volumes reached a new high of 10.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). However, as expected, the market for primary CDM has dropped to its lowest level since 2004.

Carbon Expo is the carbon market's largest annual trade fair. For three days, international emissions trading will be the focal point in Cologne, where leading greenhouse gas (GHG) market representatives met at the eighth annual Carbon Expo to discuss current trends and developments in the carbon markets as well as emissions trading, project finance and barriers to carbon mitigation.
